Television Cord Question?

Just wondering, you know when you plug you tv into the wall. There is the power plug and the other one. What is that other one called and is it possible to get tv reception without it? Also if not tv reception can you still watch Dvd's and play Xbox and things like that on it. Thanks smart people.
