Two Routers and One has two names?

I just updated my modem from comcast and they have gave me modem that is also a router. i had a router before and now i have two. i use both but the router from comcast is slow for some reason and ever since i connected the modem to my old router the laptop reads two names from router for example it says 'xxxxxxxx' & 'xxxxxx(2)' . and they both lose connections. is there a problem with the router or my cable? the modem is ran by a cable cord. and my laptop is connected wireless
